Emma Hoten

I am deeply inspired by my environment. My passion to translate sensory experiences and capture the essence of our world.

My preferred medium is oils and cold wax, allowing me to create rich, textured surfaces that evoke the rugged terrain and organic forms of nature and decaying industrial or architectural structures.

I strive to create a connection with where we live, it is essential to our well-being and Art can play a powerful role, whether a deteriorating colonial facade or intricate ecosystem of a forest, I aim to capture the beauty and complexity in all its forms.

My process involves a careful balance of intuition and technique. I begin each piece with a loose, gestural underpainting, the initial layers guide the direction of the composition, then building layers paying close attention to the interplay of light and shadow, texture and colour, until the painting takes on a life of its own.

My hope is that my art inspires a sense of wonder, curiosity, and reverence for our world and our place in it. I believe that by connecting environments through art, we can cultivate a deeper appreciation for the world around us, and a greater sense of responsibility to protect it for future generations.
